Custom Fence

A custom, painted fence.

We have been doing a lot of work on our website lately.  In the process of writing articles and rounding up photographs, I noticed that we had been putting a lot of focus on some of our larger landscaping projects. It’s true, they can be fun to review, but I realized that we might be giving the impression that we only do large scale jobs.

This is not the case.  Many of our larger projects have been done for homeowners that had been planning to do something for a long time and finally decided it was time to get the property they always wanted.

I have to say it is more common for us to do projects in phases, even over several years, and to do smaller projects.  These can be creative as well – just on a smaller scale.  We have done numerous small projects that involved one or many of the following.

Water Features

Small, brick fountain.

  • Patio covers
  • Water features
  • Planting flowers, trees and shrubs
  • Front entryways
  • Outdoor lighting

We still try to be creative on every project.  Even just replacing an old lawn and sprinkler system can be creative if the shape can be enhanced a little and the sprinkler coverage is as close to perfect as possible (and maybe adding a few special roses just for fun).

Patio

Small Patio Cover.

You might find there are many options available to you, whether you’re looking at landscaping your front yard or if you want to add an outdoor lighting system.  Chances are good,  we can work within a budget to create  something aesthetic and creative without breaking the bank.  Stay tuned and we’ll have more portfolios, landscaping tips and tricks and other goodies published throughout the next couple of months.

Water Conservation

Living in California we’re faced with all sorts of challenges when it comes to landscaping. One of the most recent challenges is water conservation and recently, California has even limited the number of days you’re allowed to water your own lawn.

We can help you choose different plants that are more drought tolerant than others, install an efficient sprinkler system systems  and recommend other methods to help your current landscape require less water while maintaining the same beauty.

Here are some tips

  • Improve the soil conditions by fertilizing and keeping your soil healthy. This encourages deeper roots thus increasing the plant’s capacity for water absorption
  • Check your irrigation system to ensure runoff is minimal.  While deep watering less often is generally good,  If you’re watering an area for an extended period of time and it’s causing excess runoff, you may want to break this down into several shorter, watering cycles, repeated one after the other 1/2 an hour apart or so.
  • Mulching can help by keeping the ground soil cooler and preventing water from evaporating.

The best method of water conservation starts at the beginning of any good landscape. We have years of experience in design covering almost every spectrum of landscaping. We can help you choose the right landscape that benefits you, whether it’s choosing plants that ensure color every season or the correct irrigation system to help you conserve water.
